Katrina Kaif Biography

Born on July 16th, 1984; Katrina Kaif is one of eight siblings, all girls, from a mother who is a Caucasian of British Nationality, and a father who was formerly from Kashmir, India, but who has since acquired British citizenship.
Katrina grew up in Hawaii, but was brought up in London, UK. She started modeling accidentally when she was in Hawaii at the tender age of 14, when she was approached for a jewelry campaign. Thereafter she continued modeling in London.
Continuing to model was the reason she got her break in a Bollywood movie “Boom” offered by none other than film-maker Kaizad Gustad.
She was flooded with modeling assignments the minute she set her foot on Indian soil, especially with her innocent expressive face, hour-glass figure, and drop-dead gorgeous looks.
Professionally she started off as a model with photographer Atul Kasbekar, and upon being accepted, she received offers from LG, Cola, Fevicol, Lakme, & Veet. It was the Lakme commercial that got her noticed. She retained Matrix as her Manager to accept work on her behalf and at the price she deserved.
Moving to a different culture and country was not much of a shock for her, as she states that no matter where you come from, the bottom line is that everyone wants to be loved, respected, and cared for.
Unlike other artists from foreign lands, Katrina did not experience any difficulties in getting a visa and getting it extended in India.
Although linguistically challenged, Katrina puts on a bold face and states that other Bollywood artists like Sridevi, who did not know Hindi, did get offers from Bollywood film-makers, and she is no different. She is taking Hindi and dancing lessons to fit in with the Bollywood culture. She likes to display a picture of her learning Kathak dancing where she used to dance 7 hours a day non-stop.
Despite her soft gorgeous looks, she is not easily intimidated, but admits that she is very emotional, almost an incurable romantic, wears comfortable non-revealing clothes when at home, hates to do her hair, and above all dislikes make-up. She admitted to being lonely in the beginning, but now she has several nice friends to hang out with.
Although her first movie “Boom” was panned by the critics and shunned by the audiences, two other Telugu movies “Malliswari” and “Pidugu” did get her noticed. She grossed Rs.70 lakhs for Malliswari – making her top the list of the highest paid actresses during a South Indian movie debut.
Not done with South Indian movies, she has been signed in a Tamil movie “Bheema” opposite National Award Winner Vikram.
She’s been voted recently as the lady with the most luscious lips in the film industry
She has received good reviews for her part in “Maine Pyar Kyon Kiya”, as well as a brief appearance in “Sarrkar”.

Vidya Balan had to carry 45 kg boy on shoulder for film “Paa”

New Delhi, (BollywoodWorld.com) Who says acting is easy? Not when you have to carry a boy weighing 45 kgs on your shoulders. Just ask actress vidya Balan, who had to go through the exercise for her film “Paa” — and ended up falling.
“In a scene, Vidya had to shoot with a child who is playing the younger version of Amitabh Bachchan in ‘Paa’. The scene required Vidya to carry him on her shoulders,” said a source.
“Vidya weighs 45 kgs and so did the boy. Vidya carried him on her shoulders nevertheless. Suddenly there was this loud thud and people saw that she had lost balance and fallen on the ground along with the boy. The actress still completed the shot,” added the source.
“Paa”, slated for a Dec 4 release, revolves around a father-son relationship. While Abhishek Bachchan plays the father, Amitabh Bachchan will be seen as his son who is suffering from a rare disorder called progeria.

Anil Kapoor and Irrfan Khan to be honoured at Cairo International film fest

New Delhi, (BollywoodWorld.com) Bollywood actors Anil Kapoor and Irrfan Khan will be honoured at the ongoing 33rd Cairo International Film Festival (CIFF) 2009.
The duo will be honoured along with model-turned-actor Arfie Lamba, among the stars of the multiple Oscar-award winning movie “Slumdog Millionaire” at the fest that commenced Tuesday, according to the official website of the film festival.
With India being the special guest of honour at the gala, around 25 Indian movies will be screened during the festival that opened with Yash Raj Films’ “New York”.
The film, which was screened Tuesday, is also competing in the ‘In Competition’ section of the festival that closes Nov 20.
Directed by Kabir Khan, the film stars John Abraham, Katrina Kaif, Neil Nitin Mukesh in the lead apart from Irrfan Khan in an important role.
Recently screened at the Pusan International Film Festival, “New York” released in over 900 screens worldwide June 26. It is a contemporary story of three young friends whose lives are turned upside down by post-9/11 prejudices.
The jury of the fest is being headed by Malayalam filmmaker Adoor Gopalakrishnan, Victor Okhai and Nour El Sherif.
Also attending the festival will be Hollywood stars like Samuel L. Jackson, Lucy Liu and Tom Berenger.

My backless shot tells a lot about “Kurbaan” theme – Kareena Kapoor

Mumbai, Kareena Kapoor says there is nothing “vulgar” about her backless shot being used for the publicity posters of forthcoming release “Kurbaan”, an intense thriller about terrorism. In fact, she says, it subtly reveals a lot about the story.
“This shot of me in a backless posture and Saif with a wound on his chest tell so much about the film’s theme,” Kareena told IANS.
“There is love, passion and violence – all combined in here and what better way than to show it through a single still? You too would agree that there is nothing sleazy or vulgar about it. Knowing the sensibilities of Karan Johar (producer) and Rensil D’Silva (director), that’s the least one could have expected,” she added.
Kareena said that after Geet in “Jab We Met”, her character of Avantika in “Kurbaan” will make people sit up and take notice.
“The girl’s role has a lot of edge in ‘Kurbaan’, something which starts becoming more and more visible as the film unfolds. In any case the film is not one of those cliched love stories. Every character has quite a few layers to it and Avantika, the character I play, is no exception. She is quite pivotal to ‘Kurbaan’,” she said.
Kareena plays a professor in “Kurbaan” who gets married to her colleague, played by Saif Ali Khan. They move to New York after marriage, but as a series of events unfold she finds herself into a vortex of danger and intrigue.
She further realises that she is a pawn in a huge game and no one could be trusted.
“What made this role special is the fact that I play this young beautiful professor who is quite normal. She reacts to terrorism for the first time and life is never the same again for her,” she said.
“Actually if you ask me, then technically ‘Kurbaan’ is the story of this girl. She is the light of the screen. I am sure people will cry with Avantika…so strong is her characterisation,” the actress said.
After “Jab We Met”, Kareena was seen in “Main Aurr Mrs Khanna”, “Kambakkth Ishq”, “Tashan” and “Golmaal Returns”. And except “Golmaal Returns”, none of the films did well at the box office.
Kareena is delighted about the prospects of audiences seeing her in a different light after the film and says it is not a frothy romance drama.
“‘Kurbaan’ has a deep-rooted love story to it, but it is not a frothy romantic film that we are time and again exposed to. The love story is much deeper here. There is a definite meaning, purpose and reason to it. Also, the film is quite powerful in its own way since it’s the voice of moderate Islam,” she said.
The film, which also stars Vivek Oberoi, Om Puri, Kirron Kher and Dia Mirza, is releasing Nov 20.

2009 crystal balls halftime report

In January, we at AA decided to compile a list of 2009 predictions for 11 of our favorite subjects; a collection of forecasts that, as we look back on them six months later, have either come to pass with shocking accuracy, or still have avery good chance of becoming true by the end of the year.
Join us now as we gauge the exactitude of our inspired prophecies. Sure, our horoscope may not wind up being 100% accurate by Christmas time, but as you'll see, halfway through 2009 it's already eerily close.

, . Phoebe Cates

I have to admit that Phoebe Cates’ role in the now classic cult hit Fast Times at Ridgemont High caught my eye like everyone other guy’s in the ‘80s, but it was Private School that I was trying to sneak into the theater to see. I can’t remember how I eventually did it, but that was the Phoebe Cates movie I wanted to see most in the early ‘80s. Cates wasn’t the biggest actress or the most popular of the ‘80s, but she carved out her own unique space in the decade. Although Cates landed a role in the Steven Spielberg produced hitGremlins and later a part in Bright Lights, Big City, which gave a new air of credibility as an actress, it was her persona as the hot teen girl guys wanted to see most in movies that furthered her career throughout the decade. It’s hard not to think of Cates and movies like Fast Times, Private School, Date with an Angeland Shag without thinking of fun, campy comedy and young sexual tension. In a lot of ways, Cates is the Debbie Rochon of campy teen comedies... and that’s pretty damn hot.

Michelle Pfeiffer

First, let’s forget about Charlie Chan and the Curse of the Dragon Queen, Grease 2 and Amazon Women on the Moon. Everyone has their Piranha 2 like James Cameron. Although Michelle Pfeiffer didn’t really come into her own as a huge Hollywood star until the early ‘90s, it was her roles in Scarface, Into the Night, The Witches of Eastwick, Tequila Sunrise, Married to the Mob, Dangerous Liaisons, and The Fabulous Baker Boys that made her one of the most hottest and easy on the eyes actresses of the ‘80s. If you asked a bunch of guys who the hottest female star of the day was, Michelle Pfeiffer’s name was at the top of most lists. For proof of Pfeiffer’s smokin’ hot sex appeal, all you need to do is find a poster or still image from The Fabulous Baker Boys. Not only was Pfeiffer one of the most beautiful and popular actresses of the ‘80s, it carried over into the ‘90s and the 2000s as well. Writer David E. Kelley’s a lucky man.

. Morgan Fairchild

Aside from being the love dream of John Lovitz on Saturday Night Live, Morgan Fairchild was everywhere in the ‘80s. The most amazing thing about Morgan Fairchild is that she doesn’t look any different today at 58 than she did when she broke out in 1980 on the primetime soap Flamingo Road at 30. Go to Google images and punch in Morgan Fairchild’s name to see for yourself. Fairchild was one of the few actresses of the ‘80s and beyond who balanced the image of classy cougar and sexy bad girl at the same time. If you can find The Seduction on DVD, you’ll see one of best nude scenes of the ‘80s, which would have relegated most actresses to successive roles in movies like Caligula. Instead, Fairchild went on to become one of the most popular actresses of the ‘80s, turning up in everything from Magnum,Hotel, Simon and Simon, and Falcon Crest to the acclaimed Civil War miniseries North and South and PeeWee’s Big Adventure Although we’re not too sure, we think the word MILF came into being because of Morgan Fairchild.

Jennifer Beals

You can’t have an ‘80s list of hot actresses without Jennifer Beals. You just can’t. Long before The L Word, Beals was one of the most iconic women of the ‘80s thanks to one film,Flashdance. There’s really not a lot more you can say about Beals as far as the ‘80s are concerned. Not only was she defined as an actress by Flashdance for an entire decade, the film’s popularity helped to defined the ‘80s. If it wasn’t for Beals’ performance as a steel welder trying to dancer her way into Pittsburgh’s most respected dance school, one-piece workout suits and tights probably wouldn’t have become huge fashion symbols of the decade. If it wasn’t for Beals’ final watery splash in Flashdance, guys probably wouldn’t have been treated to The 20 Minute Workout either. Jennifer Beals made such a splash with Flashdance it took her a decade to get her acting game back on track when Quentin Tarantino cast her in Four Rooms.

Hollywood's Top-Earning Actresses

LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Angelina Jolie vacillates between two kinds of movies: award bait, like A Mighty Heart, and action films, likeMr. and Mrs. Smith. The former earn her nominations and critical praise: She won an Oscar in 2000 for her work in Girl, Interruptedand a Best Actress nomination for last year's Changeling. The latter earn her big bucks. Mr. and Mrs. Smith, where Jolie met her boyfriend, Brad Pitt, earned $480 million at the worldwide box office. Last year's Wanted brought in $341 million.
Jolie's cinematic butt kicking made her the highest-paid actress on our annual Celebrity 100 list. Between June 2008 and June 2009, Jolie earned an estimated $27 million. Much of that came from her share of the profits on Wanted, but she also scored a fat upfront check for Salt, an action film originally slated to star Tom Cruise, in which Jolie plays a CIA agent who is accused of being a Russian spy. Judging by scenes filmed on the streets of New York City, the film should have plenty of action to satisfy Jolie's fans.
In Pictures: Hollywood's Top-Earning Actresses
To figure out earnings, we talked to agents, managers, producers and lawyers to determine what the stars got as upfront pay on movies they are currently shooting, as well as back-end pay earned after a movie hit the theaters. We also looked at any money actresses might have earned through their perfume or clothing lines.
As is still typical for Hollywood, our actresses earned significantly less than their male counterparts. Harrison Fordwas the top-earning actor this year with $65 million, $38 million more than Jolie earned. All told, the top 10 actors earned $393 million, compared with $183 million for the top 10 actresses.
Coming in second behind Jolie is Jennifer Aniston, continuing the never-ending tabloid battle between the two actresses. Aniston earned $25 million thanks to her work in the romantic comedy Marley & Me and the upcoming comedy The Baster, in which Aniston plays a woman who tries to become pregnant on her own. Aniston still earns money from Friends and she gets a nice paycheck shilling for Glaceau's SmartWater.

Top six things to do in Wanted: Weapons of Fate

MTV Multiplayer have posted another ‘top things to-do’ list, this time for the recently released (in the US) action-adventure bullet-curving game, Wanted: Weapons of Fate, courtesy of Warner Bros. Interactive’s Nick Torchia, the producer on the game.
What are some of his tips for getting the most out of Wanted: Weapons of Fate? Here’s a taste:
“Don’t Get Blood on your Clothes:
When the fire fight gets too intense, grab an enemy by simply running up from behind and pressing the action button. You will then use the enemy as a human shield so they take most of the damage as you drag them into the battle.
“Be careful though, eventually the bodies will explode leaving you vulnerable to attacks. If you want to end their life quickly, press the action button to slice their throat.”
Exploding bodies? Excellent! Read the rest of Torchia’s tips for Wanted: Weapons of Fate (releasing in Europe on April 3rd) below:
Kill What They Can’t See:
When you are in tough situations in cover, be sure to use blind fire. While in cover, press the fire button the controller and wait for the white haze to appear on screen. From there you can move from cover to cover by speeding up and not allowing the enemies seeing you. From there you can sneak up on them attack them with your knife or blast them away.
Become More Up Close and Personal:
In addition to stabbing enemies, you can perform this action over and around objects. So if an enemy is hiding behind cover and you sneak up behind him using blind fire, you can stab them over the cover. This comes in handy when you are low on ammo or for some of the tougher enemies later on in the game. Stabbing someone in the junk has never felt this good!
Hidden Kill Orders:
Be sure to look out for these hidden objects throughout the levels. Collect over eighty hidden items that unlock various items such as concept art, movies and even hidden playable characters. Also look out for the dirty explosive rats that are lying around; they too unlock some cool stuff.
Defeating Arana:
This is one of the tougher boss battles in the game. In order to defeat her, you must use your quick time movements in order to take her out. To refill your assassin time meter, you have to take out the surrounding enemies.
Don’t Get Blood on your Clothes:
When the fire fight gets too intense, grab an enemy by simply running up from behind and pressing the action button. You will then use the enemy as a human shield so they take most of the damage as you drag them into the battle. Be careful though, eventually the bodies will explode leaving you vulnerable to attacks. If you want to end their life quickly, press the action button to slice their throat.
Three is a Crowd!
When curving bullets, be sure to experiment on how many enemies you can hit! If you are lucky you might be able to take out two, three or maybe even four if timed properly. Once you have mastered this move, you have become the true assassin! Also, you can hit explosive items such as barrels and fire extinguishers with the curved bullet to create more chaos.

Salman Khan WANTED hits jackpot, fetches Rs 30 crore in Ist week!! [22 Sep 2009]

Salman Khan, the macho man of bollywood who plays a hit man Radhey in just released mega budget flick ‘Wanted’ opposite Ayesha Takia, has finally struck gold at the box office after a long spell of drought.

According to trade sources, Salman Khan starrer ‘Wanted’ has already fetched around Rs 20 crore in its first weekend and is expected to earn around Rs 30 crore in the first week. There was an environment of relief and déjà vu at Galaxy apartment where Salman Khan lives. In fact, Sohail Khan, the younger brother of Salman, started partying with friends on Friday night itself after hearing the news of its bumper opening across the country.

Even producer Boney Kapoor attended the party and enjoyed the moment of success in Salman Khan’s illustrious bollywood career. The success was sweeter to the entire Khan family as it had come after five flop films in a row from Salman Khan.

The grapevine has it that even Salman Khan went out of his way to celebrate the success of his film and invited friends at his Eid party, where Katrina Kaif was seen playing the role of a hostess. One of the special invitees to the party was perfectionist Aamir Khan, who not only attended the Eid party but also congratulated Sallubhai on his success.

aamirsalman1 Stardust: Salman Khan WANTED hits jackpot, fetches Rs 30 crore in Ist week!!
Earlier, Salman Khan had invited Aamir Khan to watch the film in a preview theatre near his home and Aamir obliged him. It was only after being impressed with Salman Khan’s action sequences in the film that Aamir decided to visit his home for Eid party.

Earlier, Salman Khan would drop at Aamir Khan’s house and two would enjoy themselves in the absence of Kiran Rao, Aamir Khan’s wife. As is known Aamir and wife Kiran were holidaying in France before he decided to return to India to shoot Raj Kumar Hirani’s ‘3 Idiots’. But, Kiran is still holidaying in France for the timbering.

The grapevine has it that while Salman Khan and Aamir Khan bonded at Eid party, it was work and work for Shah Rukh Khan. He was busy with the shooting of Karan Johar’s upcoming flick ‘My Name Is Khan’ and hence away from the action.

However, this bonhomie between Aamir and Salman Khan would certainly be viewed with suspicion by Shah Rukh Khan’s loyalists. Or may be it is true—Salman-Aamir ganging up against Shah Rukh Khan, what say??

Salman Khan, born Abdul Rashid Salman Khan on December 27, 1965 is a popular Indian film actor who appears in Bollywood movies. He is considered to be one of the biggest superstars in the industry.

Salman made his acting debut in the 1988 film Biwi Ho To Aisi where he played a supporting role. His first leading role in a Bollywood movie was in a romantic film "Maine Pyar Kiya" (1989). The film went on to become one of India's highest grossing films. It also won him a Filmfare Best Debut Award, (1990) and a nomination for the Filmfare Best Actor Award. The film also marked the debut of director Sooraj R. Barjatya.

SALMAN KHAN PERSONAL QUOTES:

"The only person I have hurt is myself."

"In life go straight and turn right."

"For me acting, comes straight from the heart. In that sense I don't act at all. I think that to feel the character's pain I have to be myself. Somewhere audiences see that."

On his childhood problems and his father's second marriage to Helen: "It was very difficult in the beginning, when everybody was talking about it. My mother just couldn't take it. It hurt her terribly. She used to worry all the time, go in to depression frequently. When she cried, we children used to cry with her."

Back To Back Shooting Makes Priyanka Chopra Unwell

Priyanka Chopra is working so hard at the moment that she had to cancel a day’s shooting with Uday Chopra for Pyaar Impossible because of a viral attack. “Down with the flu or viral or some such thing that is making me miserable.Ugh! I hate being sick! Had to cancel shoot. Guilty,” she announced on Twitter.

Priyanka has hardly stopped in the last nine months, working on Kaminey, What’s Your Rashee, which will premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival, and now Pyaar Impossible as well as handling her extra-curricular commitments with regard to events and promotions - most recently the launch of Nokia’s new camera range. Meanwhile, Shahid Kapoor’s mother Neelima Azeem is hoping to cast Priyanka in her first movie as producer. “Yes, I met up with Priyanka at her house,” she confirms, “She is the only girl in the industry whom I have approached. Catch Shahrukh Khan and Anushka Sharma this winter

Now that the film’s leading lady has been finalized, preparations for the shooting of Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi are in full swing.

A significant part of the film’s story is set in Chandigarh. However, Aditya Chopra , who is making a comeback to direction after a long gap of eight years, is recreating Chandigarh at Film City, Goregaon.

Two production units are said to be working in top gear to create the movie’s sets. The first team is working to recreate the exterior of Chandigarh – the streets, shops and houses etc – at Devdas Maidan in Film City.

The other unit is working at Yashraj Studios to create sets for the scenes depicting the interiors.

Aditya Chopra is personally taking interest in every aspect of the film’s production. He plans to begin shooting soon. A part of the film will also be shot abroad.

‘Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi’ will introduce model Anushka Sharma (don’t miss her stills) opposite Shah Rukh Khan .

The film is set to release by this year-end.

Anushka Sharma Demands A Breath-taking 1 Crore !

Anushka Sharma, the sensuous siren has agreed to play Nayantara’s part in Billa which is being remade in Telugu, along with her daring appearance in the black bikini.

Reportedly, Anushka was okay with wearing a bikini but agreed to do the scene only if the producers gave her a breathtaking Rs. 1 crore. Sources say the producers agreed without batting an eye-lid.

Billa’s shooting happened extensively in Malaysia in what is known as Little India. The treatment of the entire film was very youthful and stylish with a cutting edge to it as appropriate for a mafia movie. Audiences lapped up the razor-sharp cinematography, background music and costumes along with the actors” sleek good looks and physiques. More

Bollywood’s most awaited and expected release of the year, Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi (RNBDJ), which marks the return to direction of the scion of the Chopra family, Aditya Chopra, is progressing briskly. As we had broken the news, earlier this month, the latest addition to the film’s cast is Vinay Pathak, and he has confirmed the news officially.

Unlike the popular perception, the reason as to why it took eight years for Aditya Chopra to return to direction is very simple. The Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge and Mohabbatein director was busy in production work and had assigned the job of direction to different directors, several of them new. He also completed the setting up of the formidable state-of-the-art Yash Raj Studio.

Coming to the Shahrukh Khan-Anushka Sharma starrer, RNBDJ, unlike Aditya’s previous directorial ventures, as mentioned above, this one is going to be a quickie and if things go according to plans, Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi will release before the year 2008 ends.
